Logistics network visualisation is an extremely useful and powerful tool in daily operation and dispatch strategy planing. By using Tableau’s map function, you can create your own visualisation in seconds.

Sample Data Visualisation

Following these five steps, you can create your own map.

  • Prepare data set, make sure you have start point coordinates(latitude and longitude) and end point coordinates.
  • Clean up the data and connect your tableau to the data source
  • Create calculated field for start point and end point
  • Create calculated field for route
  • Put them together and bingo!

Step 1: Prepare data set.

If you have stored your address data in text address, e.g. “Pasay, Metro Manila, NCR, Philippines” you need to find a way to convert it into coordinates. It will take a bit of time, you can refer to this page for details

coordinates are the key for map visualisation

Step 2: Connect to data source

Tableau support a wide range of data sources. you can refer to this guide.
